A traditional Christmas cake can be light or dark. It can be made like a sponge cake with a light frosting, or it can be moist and rich, loaded with a creamy colorful icing. It can be square, round, oblong or tiered, and it can even be in the form of cupcakes.

Just about everyone in the world knows that jolly toy-bearing Christmas figure from the North Pole, but how much do we really know about him? The character we all love so much was actually created by mixing together several ingredients including the memory of an important Christian saint, the practices of North European Shamans, and the marketing wits of an all-American mega brand. Here are a few quick trivia questions about our beloved Santa. Read the rest of this entry »

One of Santa’s favorite traditions around Christmas time—and surely a favorite tradition of men everywhere during Christmas —is that of mistletoe. When a man catches his wife or special someone under the mistletoe, he gets to plant a kiss on her. Of course, with all other Christmas traditions, this wonderful habit is almost as old as the snow that falls around Christmas time. Read the rest of this entry »

On December 26th, a child did crouch,
Singing, “Deck the Halls,” until told to shut his mouth.
He kept on singing until “Shut Up!” bellowed the grouch,
Then a child’s smile — one day after Christmas — quickly went south.
I wish I had simply made up the entire set of events; however, just like the fictional Grinch, we sometimes steal the spirit of Christmas in real life with adult behavior very unlike that of our Lord and Savior. Read the rest of this entry »

He is the real spirit of generosity and love. For all the world, he is Santa Claus.
The jolly old fat man with gifts for all good little girls and boys.
But was he always “A Jolly Old Elf”?
Not really. In the land now known as Turkey, Bishop Nicholas, was known for using his
wealth to buy people out of slavery. Many children were freed from lives of drudgery
thanks to his generous ways. Read the rest of this entry »

If you’re anything like I was as a child, discovering the true identity of Santa Claus was upsetting. I’ll never forget when my mother asked me to get something from her room and finding wrapped gifts adressed to me from Santa. Right there I knew that either Santa had a new business model and was delivering gifts early, or he simply wasn’t who I thought he was. There is just no reason to let the mystery of Santa Claus fade for the children. Therefore, we’ve worked up a guide on how to pull off the Santa effect so well your children will secretly wonder in their adult years whether the man in red actually came to visit that special Christmas day. Let’s face it - even during Christmas - that most special time of the year - we still want to look good and keep up with the neighbors. With the amount of time and money that people spend on outdoor Christmas lighting and holiday decorations, this can be kind of hard to do. I was surprised to find out that many of my neighbors start planning their lighted outdoor Christmas decorations months ahead of time. Gone are the days when it was as simple as running a string of lights along the roof and making a snowman in the front yard. Nowadays, if you don’t spend weeks decorating, it looks like you have put in almost no effort at all! Read the rest of this entry »

Yes, ’tis the Season of giving and receiving. This is the time of year when more people have a heart for giving. They always have a heart for receiving.
We all love to receive but in order to receive you must give. In my opinion a giver is a receiver. John D Rockefeller was a giver, as was J Paul Getty. You may have heard that Bill and Melinda Gates are big givers. Warren Buffett has given away a fortune because he believes in the rule of giving. You know that Oprah Winfrey gives from the heart. Each of these people knows that you can’t beat giving because you can’t receiver without it. Read the rest of this entry »

Were Ancient Shaman magic mushroom gatherers early Santa’s? From the Shamanistic traditions of the tribal people of the pre-Christian Northern part of Europe it is suggested that our many Christmas traditions including Santa Claus can be related back to this time and these ancient people. The Shamans were consumers of what we would call ‘magic’ mushrooms yet to them they were sacred mushrooms. These amanita muscaria mushrooms (red and white in color) are associated with transcendental experiences and insight. These mushrooms contain hallucinogenic compounds which gave off affects such as sensations of flying and size distortion. The Shamans traditional animal were reindeer and there were countless tales of flying reindeer or winged reindeer transporting them to the ‘cosmic’ realm or what we may refer to as the ‘heavenly’ world.
